Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS)

SBNS website

The purpose of the Society is the study and advancement of Neurosurgery. This is achieved through the scientific meetings of the Society, through publications arising from deliberations about aspects of Neurosurgical practice and delivery of Neurosurgical services, through fostering professional relationships amongst neurosurgeons and through engagement with the public and bodies involved in the provision of care to patients requiring Neurosurgery.

Professor Peter Hutchinson, SNBS President

Peter Hutchinson, Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Cambridge and Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon at Addenbrooke’s Hospital commenced his 2-year term as President of the SBNS on 26th September at the Gala Dinner at the SBNS Autumn Meeting in Birmingham.

Hutch has a long association with the SBNS, spanning 30 years and has had many roles on Council.  In his opening speech he thanked Professor Peter Whitfield (SBNS President 2022-2024) and Council for their excellent contributions to the society and stated he is looking forward to leading the SBNS over the next two years, and celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2026 at the SBNS100 Meeting in London.

He has appointed two vice presidents: Mr Nigel Mendoza Consultant Neurosurgeon at Imperial as VP for Global Affairs to continue to support the successful SBNS global initiative and Professor Michael Jenkinson Professor of Neurosurgery in Liverpool as a new VP for Research, Innovation and Impact.

Over the next 2 years, in addition to promoting the future of neurosurgery, innovation and the global initiative, the SBNS plans to continue supporting training and workforce planning, the Equality and Diversity initiative, the National Neurosurgery Audit Programme and working with the NHS in terms of commissioning and optimising service delivery.
