  • Encouraging and promoting excellence in the practice of cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Encouraging innovation in and scientific understanding of cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Promoting, undertaking, encouraging and assisting in research in cardiothoracic surgery and advancing the education of the public in cardiothoracic surgery.

Mr Simon Kendall, President

Simon is a cardiac surgeon in South Tees (Middlesbrough) and currently President SCTS.

He trained at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School (1978 -84) and did his junior surgical training in Sheffield and Leeds.

His cardiothoracic training was in Wythenshawe, Papworth and Oxford, completing his M.S in Duke Medical Center, North Carolina.

As a consultant since 1994 he has been one of the more productive cardiothoracic surgeons with a strong emphasis on training. There have been various leadership positions in the trust including Chair Senior Medical Staff, Clinical Director (two terms), Chief of Service, Medical Director and Responsible Officer.

In training he has been Programme Director for the Northern rotation, one term on the SAC and recipient of the European Cardiothoracic Trainer of the Year 2012.

He has been serving SCTS since 2004 as an elected trustee, Meetings Secretary and Honorary secretary.
