Mr Kieran O’Flynn, BAUS President
Kieran O’Flynn is a Consultant Urological Surgeon from Salford Royal Foundation Trust in Manchester. He qualified from University College Dublin in 1982, obtained his FRCS in 1986, while completing the Dublin Pre-Fellowship rotation. After working in Scotland and Sheffield he took a senior registrar post in Manchester, gained his FRCS(Urol) and was appointed to Salford Royal Foundation Trust.
In addition to his clinical and subspecialty work in Urology and reconstruction, Kieran is currently governance lead for Urology, having previously served as Clinical Director for General Surgery, Breast and Urology.
Kieran has a long-standing interest in post-graduate education. He has previously been Programme Director for Urology in the North West region and Royal College advisor for Urology. From 2007-2010, he was Director of Education of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and chairman of the Urology Specialist Advisory Committee from 2010 to 2013. From 2013-2016, he was chair of the Intercollegiate Board of Urology overseeing the exit exam for Urology training. In 2013, he was awarded the National Urology Trainer of the year by SURG.
Kieran is President of British association of Urological surgeons, having previously served as its treasurer and Chair of the Education Committee. He has been an advisor to the Centre for Workforce Intelligence (which endeavours to predict workforce demands and trends in the UK), the National Clinical Assessment Service (NCAS) and the RCS invited review panel.
Kieran is married with 5 children, one of whom is a medic.
